The iPhone 4S was a bit of a disappointment for millions of people around the world as it was very similar to the iPhone 4 Actually, it was exactly the same as the iPhone 4 in design and physical appearance. Only the processor and the virtual assistant in Siri, made the iPhone 4S different from the iPhone 4. Though Apple sold more than 4 Million iPhone 4S handsets on the weekend of its launch, it has to be said that many more millions actually skipped on the upgrade to the iPhone 4S, preferring to wait it out for the iPhone 5. In the following passages, we will discuss the possible or probable specs that might be featured in the Apple iPhone 5 and will also briefly touch upon the release date of the next iPhone, due to be launched in 2012.
iPhone 5 Specs
iPhone 5 4G LTE
It is now the 4G generation. 4G speeds, especially LTE speeds, can result in download speeds of up to 32Mbps which makes 3G look like something that came out in the 1970′s. With so many Android phones already offering 4G LTE support, it will be a huge disappointment if Apple does not include 4G compatibility in the iPhone 5. Some rumors seem to suggest that Apple actually tried to include 4G LTE support in the iPhone 4S although they just couldn’t do so because the LTE chips were just too big for a 3.5 inch iPhone. So, this could essentially mean that the iPhone 5 will get a larger screen. More about the screen size is discussed below.
iPhone 5 Screen size – What will it be?
This is a pretty tricky question, for several reasons. First off, it is public knowledge that Steve Jobs firmly believed that 3.5 inches was the perfect screen size for the iPhone 5.Steve Jobs was a firm believer that anything more than a 3.5 inch screen for a phone was oversized, ugly and uncalled for. Steve Jobs also believed that anything more than a 3.5 inch screen will result in a strain on the battery that Apple just does not tolerate.
Another problem with a larger screen on the iPhone 5 is that a larger screen will make it very difficult for Apple to retain the retina display resolution that the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S currently boast of. There have been rumors that seemed to suggest that Apple just couldn’t figure out a way to maintain the quality of the retina display on a screen that was larger than 3.5 inches, suggesting that Apple might keep the screen size of the iPhone 5 at just 3.5 inches, instead of increasing it to 4 or 4.3 inches.
What will be the release date of the iPhone 5?
Apple has never been a company that has announced the release date of their products at an advance date. Because of this, we can only guesstimate the big release date or launch date for the iPhone 5. There are millions, probably just like yourself, who are expecting the iPhone 5 to come out in the summer of 2012. However, June and July have traditionally been reserved as iPad release dates and not iPhone release dates. With iPad 3 production and shipping almost finalized, there is very little chance that the iPhone 5 will be launched or released along with the iPad 3. The iPhone 5 is just too popular a product to share a release date with another high profile gadget.
There are even some very interesting rumors that suggest that the iPhone 5 will be released on October 5, 2012, the first death anniversary of Steve Job’s death, as a way to commemorate the death of the famous icon in the world. We agree that October 5, 2012 is the most likely release date of the iPhone 5 as the date also coincides with the traditional release date of Apple products in the fall, with Apple trying to put out a product just before the holiday season, where people are most likely to shell out about $300 or $400 on an Apple product.
What else can you expect to see in the iPhone 5?
Though the vast majority of iPhone lovers are anticipating a larger screen and 4G LTE speeds, there are also some iPhone fans who want to see a faster processor and a new OS in the iPhone 5, when it does come out. There have been a few rumors that have seemed to suggest that the iPhone 5 is going to get a super fast quad core processor, along with a much more sophisticated and easy to use IOS6 But, there are also some who believe that the iPhone 5 will retain the same dual core, A5 processor that has been featured in the iPhone 4S.
If you asked us, we would say that a quad core processor would be quite superfluous for a cell phone like the iPhone 5. No cell phone really needs the power of a quad core processor, at least for the average user. If anything the clock speed of the A5 processor might be increased in the iPhone 5 model. Although the iPhone 5′s processor will remain the same as the 4S, we think that the OS will be upgraded to IOS6 that will be able to support extra features such as NFC, 3D camera mode, panoramic camera mode, facial unlocking and wireless data transfer between Apple devices.
